Mexican alt.rock band Jaguares have been forced to cancel an upcoming concert appearance in Vancouver on Sept. 5 at the Commodore Ballroom.
The band are a casualty of Canada's new tighter visa restrictions on Mexican citizens. The Canadian government announced on July 13 that Mexican citizens would require travel visas to come to the country as of the next day, apparently in an attempt to stop the increase in refugee claims coming from that country.
Show promoter Live Nation issued the following statement:
"Jaguares will not be able to fly into Canada due to a time issue with their work visas. As everyone in Mexico is aware of, Canada changed their visa requirements overnight in July 2009.
"Jaguares have been trying to get the correct information since then, and we have been told by representatives that there is not enough time to complete this process. We are very disappointed and apologize to all the fans, this is an issue beyond our control. Refunds are available at point of purchase."
