The chart success of bon-bon shaking stars like Shakira and Ricky Martin may have brought Latin pop to the American masses over the last decade, but there are still plenty of acts from south of the border that haven't gotten their due.
Jaguares rose from the ashes of another popular Mexican band, Califanes, during the '90s. Playing swaggering guitar rock that recalls Jane's Addiction and the Cult, the band has become huge in its native country and is gradually making inroads to the U.S. with such powerful albums as 2001's 'Cuando la Sangre Galopa' and the all-acoustic greatest hits/rarities collection 'El Primer Instinto' (which included some Califanes-era tunes).
The group's most recent effort '45' continues with the political bent of lead singer Saul Hernández's lyric; the title refers to approximately how many millions of Mexican citizens live in poverty. Find out why Jaguares sell out arenas when they tour Mexico during this intimate show at the Regency Ballroom. Bay Area Latin outfit Los Cenzontles opens the show.
